Bariatric or Metabolic Surgery is a minimally invasive and highly effective treatment option for uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes, particularly in obese patients. The American Diabetes Association has included metabolic surgery as a recommended treatment modality for Type 2 Diabetes since 2017 in their annual Diabetes Care guidelines. Despite this, many physicians still do not present this option to eligible diabetic patients. With advancements in surgical techniques and technology, metabolic surgery has become extremely safe and predictable. It typically requires only a two-day hospital stay, and patients can return to their routine activities within a few days. From an economic standpoint as well, the procedure is cost-effective when considering its long-term benefits, including improved metabolic control and reduced medication requirements.
